Subject:- Representation of M.tech students of SSM regarding 2nd-semester.
Respected Sir,
With due respect and regards we the students of M.tech want to bring in your kind notice that:-
1) We the students of SSM college of engineering got selected for 2 years M.tech course by Kashmir University in 2018 through an entrance test and classwork for our Ist semester commenced from October 2018.
2) After attending classes for almost 6 months the course for the students of Mechanical branch in which admission took place was changed from Thermal engineering to General Mechanical engineering.This sudden change in course caused us great stress and confusion but we accepted the decision of Kashmir university without any hue and cry.
3) Our major theory paper Ist SEM examination was held in the month of July 2019, it took almost 9 - 10 months for the administration to take our Ist semester examinations, but still no practical examinations were conducted yet, so our Ist semester was still on halt.
4)After ist sem exams we were provisionally promoted to second semester and we were about to start the classwork for the same but on 5 Aug 2019 abrogation of article 370 happened and we were put under lockdown for almost 5 months.
5) In December 2019 when normalcy returned our Ist SEM practical exams were conducted .
6) Before starting our 2nd semester, our whole course syllabus was changed suddenly, but we stillmanaged it and resumed our classes back in January 2020 despite chilling winter and tried our best for completion of our syllabus, and in March 2020 we appeared for 2nd semester Minor exams and were expecting that university will hold our 2nd SEM major exam in April 2020 but unfortunately COVID lockdown happened.
7) Presently , we are attending online classes of 3rd semester as per the directions of Kashmir university but at the same time, we are told to prepare for previous semester exams which is a cause of great stress for all the students.
8) On 29 May 2020, in news bulletin of radio kashmir sharbeen, the Controller examination of KU told
that UGC GUIDELINES and University decision taken regarding internal Assessment for promotion can't be given to M.tech as it comes under our prestigious courses and will hold our second-semester exams next month i.e June 2020.
9)Sir, as you already know M.tech is all about research work which we have to do in 3rd and 4th Semesters but as our previous semesters are still pending we are not able to concentrate on our current semester as well, and our 1st and 2nd semesters are totally theory-based, so there should not be any issue if internal assessment would be carried for them like any other PG course.
10) It should be noted that our country's pioneer institutes like IIT Kanpur has also opted for internal assessments for their current semesters including M.tech and have even provided some relaxation in their thesis/research work as well .
11) We all are also aware of the Internet problems we are facing in Kashmir, and still we are giving our best to appear in online classes and concentrate on our research work but as we are asked to prepare for the previous semester as well it adds on to our miseries.
12) Sir, how can it be safe for the students to appear in the examination in such COVID-19 fear and with the rise of cases on spike.We the students of M.tech are residing all across the j&k and some of the students are from Red Zone areas and their presence in the examination is not possible as the roads are blocked.Also , all the students don't have access to private transport and for them to travel such long distances in this pandemic won't be safe.
13) Our course is like any other science PG program and without any project work in the previous semester, it can't be compared with MD course of Doctors as they are presently working in COVID hospitals and have been provided with necessary training and PPEs.
14)Our degree has been already delayed by almost 6 months, in rest of the colleges of our country the students of batch 2018 are preparing for their final(4th) semester exam and will appear for the same in June 2020 through online mode but here we the students of Kashmir university are still worried about our second semester exams.We the students do not demand mass promotion but evaluation of our previous semester as per theUGC protocol so that we can get some relief from this mental trauma and agony.We humbly request your good self thatkindly apply the same treatment to us as the rest of PG courses as we have suffered from all fronts in past Two(2) years even our ist semester result has not been declared yet.Sir, the degree of B.E / B.tech is enough to make us a field engineer and M.tech is only preparation for PhD for which our project work (4th semester) is important and we need early focus on that.
We would like your kind self to discuss the matter with the KU administration, as soon as possible, and issue the necessary instructions so that we can concentrate on our current semester and there won't be any delay in our project work, which is actually the main part of our Mtech course and can reduce any further delay in our degree as well.Hope consideration of above genuine plead will be given and an internal assessment like other PG courses will be implemented to save the future and timeof the students.
